Day 21

First time out after gun season. Went out before the packer game started. Saw 4 birds on ylitelos land. Scout found one that i was able to hit. Missed one other one. Might be the last bird of the year, depending on how the snow is. Only have a couple inches right now. But you never know.

Day 19-20

Went out twice this weekend. Each time about on hour. We had our first snow storm of the year on saturday. I had to show Penner his deer stand, so off we went. No birds, wet from head to toe.

Day 17-18

Saturday
Went out on Sat to move tree stands, never saw a bird. It was very windy


Went out to county line pond on sunday, saw two birds, got one. Checked my tree stand. Then i went to Tomich road. Only saw 1 grouse and 1 woodcock. The dogs did flush up a huge cock rooster, which was odd.

Day 16

Went out after work. Last week to do that until next year. Clocks change on sunday.
Saw 6 grouse on south side of creek by parents house. 2 on the north. Ruger pushed the first grouse. He then pointed the 2nd, Scout came in and it flushed. Almost hit me on the trail. I literally ducked down and fell over. I missed it with both shots. Ruger also pointed another couple grouse. I shot 2. the dogs also found a bear den and there were two bears in it.

Also ran to the cabin quick and saw 2 grouse on the ravine. Ruger also pointed and relocated and pointed again on a woodcock.

Day 14-15

Went out to Brule on sat. Hunted around the cabin. Ruger had 2 nice points on woodcocks, and also scout had some points on grouse. Saw about 10 birds each. Got 2 woodcocks.


Went out on Sunday during the packer game. Ruger was the only dog. He pointed a grouse breifly, and a group of 2 woodcocks. Also pushed 2 grouse. Never shot my gun.

Day 13

Went out after work for 1 hour. It is pretty dark by 6 PM now. Scout bumped a woodcock, but i shot it. Ruger pushed lots of birds. So did Scout. Scout did point a grouse, but was too close and spooked it. Ruger is doing the same thing. Too close to the birds. Saw 8 grouse, and a dozen woodcocks. Pretty good for 1 hour by the cabin.

Day 12

Got back from south dakota on wednesday 20th, Went out on Sat to white river cabin. Saw 8 grouse, shot at 4 and got 2. Saw maybe 12 woodcocks, and got one of a point from scout, and another that flew right at me down a trail.

Day 11

Went out this morning before the packer game for 3 hours. Saw 16 woodcocks, and 4 grouse. Ruger had a point right in front of me and i missed the woodcock. He is slowing down a bit, but still not solid on his points at all.

Day 10

Worked a half day, so i went out for 2 hours. Saw 6 birds, 2 woodcocks, and no points. it is getting a little bit rediculus. The dogs are doing terrible. It was 80 degrees out. I think it was the heat.

Day 9

Went out after work today. It was hot, 70 degrees and no wind. I shot 1 bird right on the cabin road. ruger retrieved it. All downhill from there. Ruger pushed 5 different grouse, 1 of them 3 times. Never pointed a single one. Also pushed 3 woodcocks and still no points. Scout never pointed either.

Next week is the trip to South dakota.

Day 8

Went out on Sat morning for a couple hours with just Ruger. Since he is not pointing to many birds with Scout, i am trying to work him alone and see what happens. First spot we found 2 woodcocks and 4 grouse. I did shoot 1 grouse. Ruger was pointing it very quickly and it fly right at me about 5 feet above my head. I swung and winged it. Ruger found it about 50 yards away.
Also went to county line pond and only saw 1 grouse.

Day 7

Went out after work. Back to White River Cabin for a hour or so. The woodcocks are around. I saw about 6, but for some reason, neither dog pointed a single one.

Day 6

Went out after work for 1 hour. Ruger bumped 3 different woodcocks. Followed 1 and scout pointed and held it, Ruger came rushing in and the bird flushed, i shot it and scout retrieved. that was the only point of the day. Some flash points but nothing great. Ruger also bumped 1 grouse into a tree. i was able to take a picture of it, then i just flushed it and watched it fly away.

Saw 6 woodcocks and 1 grouse.
Scout was either bitten by a bee, or had an allergic reaction to something. Her face was puffed up like a swollen boxer when i got home. Had to give her 15 ML of benadryl.

Duck Opener day 4 and 5

Went out and jumped some ponds south of town. Not a single duck seen. Went with Strap, and left scout at home. We did get 1 grouse, saw 4 more.


Sunday,
Took Ruger in the morning to the cabin. Saw 4 different grouse, and about 15 woodcock contacts. He was pointing but no holding very long. Didn't shoot at anything.
Took Scout and Ruger to County Line. No ducks on the pond. Saw 2 different grouse, no points,

Day 3

Hunted after work yesterday for about 1 hour. No grouse found, and Scout pushed 1 woodcock.

Day 2- White River Cabin

Went out after the packer game today. 61 degrees. Scout pointing 1 grouse right on the trail fir a split second or 2 and then flushed it. Saw 3 more grouse, and 2 more woodcocks. No points.

Opening Day

Went out ot Brule cabin. Ruger got lost tracking a wounded deer. Scout flushed 1 woodcock.

Came back home and went to White River cabin. Scout pointed a grouse right in front of me. I was able to get ready and shot the first one of the season. Scout retrieved it.
Then i went to ylitellos land. Heard Rugers beeper going off about 100 yards away. She held point for probably 20 seconds and then a woodcock came flying over.

Also Scout flushed 1 more grouse there.
